The International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) paid tribute to the Cherry Creek Arts Festival (CCAF) on September 15, 2010 during the IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards Ceremony held at the IFEA’s 55th Annual Convention & Expo in Saint Louis, Missouri, U.S.A., where the CCAF was presented with 17 awards for the 2010 festival.

A highlight among those was the “Gold Pinnacle” award received for the CCAF’s Janus Student Art Buying Program, in recognition for the Best Educational Program of any festival in its budget class worldwide.

A panel of judges from the festivals and events industry awarded the gold to CCAF in recognition for the innovation, outreach and impact of the educational program which recruited student/faculty teams from 24 participating Colorado middle schools to attend the 2010 Cherry Creek Arts Festival to review, select, negotiate and purchase art from the 200 exhibiting artists.

Janus, a global investment management firm based in Denver, CO, and the title sponsor of the festival, provided the funding to the students as well as employee mentors to accompany the teams during their art-buying experience.  At the conclusion of the day, each team presents and explains their selection before their student peers and a panel of art specialists.

Art selected by the students is placed into the Festival’s Mobile Art Gallery which tours schools, libraries and other public locations during the year.  Additionally, the students return with a piece of art for permanent display at their schools.

“This program was the inspiration of Casey Cortese and Janus,” said Terry Adams, Executive Director of the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.  “Janus has been an incredible partner in our goal of making art accessible to Coloradoans everywhere.  Because of Janus’ active participation, more than 24,000 school children around the state will experience the fine arts in a unique and engaging manner,” he added.

“This award reflects the Cherry Creek Arts Festival’s on-going commitment of excellence to our community and to our mission of providing access to the arts and of supporting arts education in Colorado. Our sponsors, volunteers, supporters and staff truly make these awards possible,” said Adams.

“The IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards Competition represents the hallmark of excellence in the festivals and events industry. Entries in every budget category, from every corner of the globe, allow us to recognize the best in our business while raising the standards an quality of media promotions and events across the board”, said IFEA President & CEO, Steven Wood Schmader, CFEE.
